God is Pro-Choice!
Yes – you read that title correctly! Trust me… that statement got the attention of more Christians than even the staunchest “Pro-Choice Liberal Democrat!” Nevertheless, it’s true… God is in fact, “Pro-Choice.” Christians are constantly accused of “shoving the Gospel down people’s throats.” My own cousin made the same accusation toward me a few years back for simply leaving a few “Gospel Message Tracts” amongst her belongings when she left after visiting me years ago. She and her husband came to visit when I offered them shelter from a hurricane headed directly towards their home. At no time during her visit did I challenge her faith, “or lack of faith,” as I already knew she was a Progressive, and an Atheist. Consequently, I am “pretty sure” she didn’t even read any of the material I left with her; but in her eyes, I was “shoving the gospel down her throat,” as this is exactly what she accused me of in a subsequent e-mail I got from her a few weeks after she returned to her home. Yes - I was accused of forcing my beliefs on her by the heinous act of simply giving her the opportunity to look at some things from a Christian point of view (without anyone watching or listening!) This has been the case for a long time; people insisting that they are being forced to endure relentless “Christian Evangelism;” but wait… which group is really the one forcing their beliefs on the other, the Progressive Atheists, or the Christians?
Let us examine the tactics of Christian Evangelism vs. Progressivism and Atheism, keeping in mind that there are moderates and extremists on both sides. Therefore, we will try to illustrate the differences from the “main stream perspective” as best as we can. Using the above example, I submit that I had been respectful of my cousin’s right to be a Progressive Atheist. I did so by avoiding “controversial issues” whilst she and her husband spent about 4 days with me and my wife. I did however attempt to get her read some things on her own privately, in an effort for her to possibly see some things from a different point of view by leaving some information amongst her belongings. I chose this path specifically so as not to make her feel I was forcing the issue so to speak. I did not, and could not in any way force her to read the information I left with her, nor did I even mention the Gospel to her while she was with us. Trust me… I had to bite my tongue as I usually take every opportunity to share the Gospel with everyone, even in general conversation, but I refrained because I knew where she stood concerning God from past experience with her, and her mother my Aunt, who was also an Atheist. So how does this compare to how Christians are treated by non-believing Progressive Atheists in our society right here in the U.S.A.!
I have used this illustration before, but one of the best illustrations of forcing one’s beliefs on another can be seen by watching the movie, “God’s Not Dead.” This movie was based on a true story about a new college student standing up to his professor who on the first day of his philosophy class, insisted that all the students sign a statement saying, “God is dead!” The professor stated that he didn’t want to waste time talking about some god that he didn’t believe existed, as the subject of God always comes up relating to philosophy. The young new student, being a Christian refused. As a result, he was mocked in front of the class and threatened with failing the course; unless he could prove his faith to the whole class. The student took up the challenge and the “end result” was that many of the other students eventually signed another statement saying, “God’s Not Dead.” One student from Communist China actually became a Christian in the process! In the last 5 or 6 decades, the U.S.A. has gone from a “God Fearing Christian Nation,” founded on Judeo-Christian beliefs, to a nation that frowns upon the mere mention of God and especially any mention of Jesus Christ. Not too long ago a Senator from New York told another person in the Senate who had dared to mention God, “We don’t care about God or the Bible in this house… We make the laws here!” (Paraphrased)
Most people of the “Progressive Persuasion” espouse the same rhetoric, and are in affect making them the supreme authority; they are making their own rules to suit their own wants and desires. Not only do they feel that they are the rule makers, they will savagely attack, anyone, or any group that opposes their views. We see this happening day after day as people are “Cancelled” and relentlessly brought to utter destruction, simply for proclaiming a different point of view! The intolerance being perpetrated these days is unprecedented! Perhaps the most provocative issue is the “Pro-Choice Issue!” As far as Left Wing Progressives are concerned, “Pro-Choice” is primarily related to the Abortion Issue, (a priority for Progressives.) The mantra on the Left is, “Pro-Choice” meaning, “it is a woman’s decision as to whether or not to have an abortion.” The mantra on the Conservative Right is, “Pro-Life,” stressing that God forbids murder, even pertaining to the un-born! The fact is, as the title of this article states, God is 100% Pro-Choice, however, not as the context of this current paragraph might lead one to believe. God, being the Creator of everything, is therefore the ultimate “Rule Maker” pertaining to everything. Nevertheless, although He is the final judge, He allows us to choose whether, or not, we follow His rules. I can hear some of my readers saying, “yeah… if we do what He says we’re blessed and live, but if go against His rules we’re cursed, and we die…” some choice! As for that commentary, I am in total agreement, but again, not for the reasons you might think.
The Garden of Eden was a spectacular place… Everything Adam and Eve could ever need was at their fingertips. They talked with God daily they strolled through the garden without a care in the world! As most people know, they had only one rule; that was not to eat of the “Tree of Good and Evil.” God gave them the opportunity to make one simple choice whether to follow His directive or not. The reason for this was so that they could demonstrate to God love for Him as, by their obedience. God warned them that if they ate of that one particular tree they would die. He did not want them to die; this is why He warned them not to eat of it! Most people know the rest of the story, if you don’t, you can read it for yourself in the Bible. (Genesis Chapter 3) None of the rules God gave man throughout history were given to hurt man, but to help man. Look at the Ten Commandments and ask yourself, “What would the world be like if we all obeyed them?” Keep in mind what the Garden of Eden was like… this is what God wanted for us! The bottom line is that Adam and Eve chose to disobey God. God did not force them, and in the same way Christians do not force anyone to follow their beliefs. Can the same be said concerning Progressive Atheists? Are not they the ones who are forcing their agenda on the rest of us, Christians and Non-Christians alike? If they disagree with what we say, they force us to be silent with threats of legal action and even threats of physical harm. Christians pray and hold vigils in front of abortion clinics… The Progressive Atheists Destroy Pro- Life centers or attack the people running them.
So, the question is… “Who is forcing their will on others, the Christians or the Progressive Atheists?” Who is “shoving their beliefs down people’s throats?” Just as my cousin was able to choose whether to read the material I left with her or throw it away, when I proclaim the Gospel to anyone, they too have the same choice, to consider what is presented to them or to ignore it. It seems that Christians are the ones being deprived of choice these days. God says in His Word, “Choose Ye this day whom you will serve.” God Is Pro-Choice!
