You Call Yourself A Christian... But Are You?
In current society, the “Mantra” heard more often than not is, “Separation of Church and State,” reminding we Christians that the Church should keep to itself, and that people should not mix politics and religion. How do you feel about that, especially if you do in fact call yourself a “Christian?” The big question is, “Does politics really affect religion, and vice-versa?” I submit that the Bible says, “Yes” to that question, they do indeed affect one another. More importantly, they both profoundly affect the moral condition of our society in general! According to 2019, data, upwards of 65% of Americans at the time, identified themselves as “Christian.” Interestingly, only 49% of Americans identified themselves as “Pro-Life” during the same period, coming from the same data source! Although the number of Pro-Lifers went up by 1% from the previous year, this still indicates that 16% of those who call themselves “Christian,” seem to have what most would consider, a Non-Christian worldview when it relates to Abortion! How about you, do you call yourself a “Christian,” if so, what are your views on this issue?
I presented statistics concerning Abortion, because it is one of the hottest topics of debate between the Christian Church, and people involved in politics on both sides of the isle as they say, both Democrat and Republican. As most everyone knows, the majority of Republicans say that they favor, ”Pro-Life” while most Democrats favor the “Pro-Choice” stance concerning the abortion issue. Although there are dissenters on both sides, for the most part, Democrats are in fact predominately Pro-Choice, and Republicans, Pro-Life. Without getting into the details of the debate as to when life in fact begins which is at the heart of the issue; what does the Bible say about what is referred to as, “the sanctity of life?” Assuming the majority of people reading this do indeed call themselves Christian, I will not give the Bible references, as they should be familiar. For those who are not Christian, perhaps it is time you looked for yourself, rather than simply submitting to a biased opinion of someone else just because they may sound credible to you. I realize that non-Christians do not give much credence to the Bible, but if you look for yourself, you might be surprised to see just how relevant the Bible is to our lives in general. There is no need to be afraid… it (the Bible) will not bite you! However, brushing it aside as so many people do, it may in fact “Bite You” so to speak, in the end.
At the time of this writing (Late September 2020) we are weeks away from what some consider the most polarized election in American history. Never before, have the opposing sides in an election, been so distinctly different in their moral views, and their vision for the future of our country. If you call yourself a Christian, what side are you on? If you call yourself a Patriot, what side are you on? Does the presidential candidate you plan to vote for have the same worldview that you have, (assuming it to be, a Biblical worldview) or does the candidate you plan to vote for have a view contrary to the moral teachings of the Bible (what Christians refer to as The Word of God)… thus a view contrary to your Christian values? The differences between the candidates in the coming election are quite clear if you use diverse news sources. However, you may be basing your choice on what may be biased, or distorted news sources, of which kind there seems to be abundance. Before you cast your vote, make sure the candidate of your choice truly agrees with your worldview. You see, the Bible and Politics do indeed go together, and in this country, you and I get to choose the candidate who supports our moral values and, the one who honors his or her oath of office. Back in the 1960’s we in essence kicked God out of our government. We kicked God out of our schools, out of our work place even out of our conversations! We have been in a state of moral decline ever since. Soon we will again have the chance, by casting our vote, to either continue that trend or reverse it.
As for how you should vote… remember the question,
“What would Jesus do?” I ask, “How would Jesus vote?”
You tell me!
